103 – Al-Mufaḍḍal ibn Ghassān narrated to me, from one of his shaykhs, who said:
Whenever Faḍl al-Raqāshī’s renunciation of the world was mentioned, he would say:
“I passed by the cemetery and called out: ‘O people who once enjoyed honor, wealth, and vainglory! O people of fine garments, valor, sorrows, and substantial incomes! O people of poverty, need, and destitution! O people of devotion, humility, repentance, and earnest striving! Not a single group among you returned my greeting. Yet, by my life, even if you did not answer with words, you surely answered with a lesson.’”
