So pray for him—and for the one(1) who served as his envoy and came to you after a long separation. Allah has brought to pass what you had hoped for him, so that each, through the other, now lives in abundant ease. Tell those who were once afflicted: hardship has passed to your enemies, while you remain the fortunate. An evil eye did strike, but it struck the eye of the envier himself—can you not see that it now lies closed in the slumber of death? By Allah, never has Allah disappointed those who pray on his behalf—every servant who calls upon Him while in prostration. Rather, He answered and bestowed far beyond what they asked; so praise be to Allah, praise everlasting and unceasing.
Completed—with Allah’s praise, His help(2), and His gracious enabling.
This poem was recited by the eminent shaykh Shams al-Din Abū al-Thanā’ Maḥmūd ibn Khalīfah ibn Muḥammad ibn Khalaf al-Manbajī. He said: its author, the shaykh-imam Saʿd al-Dīn Abū Muḥammad Saʿd Allāh ibn Bukhaykh(3), recited all these poems to us in praise of Shaykh al-Islam Taqī al-Dīn Ibn Taymiyyah—may Allah sanctify his soul, illuminate his grave, have mercy on him, and pardon him:
O noble one whose glory surpasses all and whose lofty rank rises above his peers; O imam whom Allah has appointed for the world as a guide, gentle and benevolent,(4)
