You departed the constricting prison for an abode of triumph amid spacious gardens. You received from your Lord all that you had hoped for, and Reality itself let you witness it with a soothed and contented eye.
You were carried upon a bier under which hundreds of thousands walked, weeping and raising their voices. All the Muslims (1) prayed over you, certain in their good opinion of you, O exemplary Shaykh. As for the believing women, they came out bewildered, wave after wave, and with them were maidens veiled in piety, lamenting for you with aching hearts.
You accepted the divine decrees willingly and obediently, tasting the bitterness of trial. You bore every calamity, patient with destiny while living in a land of exile. You opened your breast to fate when, in every solitary retreat, you beheld the beauty of love. Lights dawned upon you in that vision around which spirits circle in a meadow of Paradise (2). You beheld the One whose attributes are exalted and gazed upon the Beloved with the eye of inner insight.
May the All-Merciful never leave us desolate because of your absence, nor let your homesteads be emptied of those sublime sciences. May no ruin be bereft of you, nor your dwellings grow distant from those noble qualities. On the day of farewell our tears did not subside (3), nor did our eyelids find rest even for an instant. Our ears have never been veiled from you for a single moment (4), nor have our eyes despaired of you for lack of a glance.
