This is the reply of the shaykh, the eminent imam and scholar, Jamal al-Din Yusuf ibn ʿAbd al-Mahmud ibn ʿAbd al-Salam ibn al-Batti al-Hanbali (1), may Allah have mercy on him (2). I have transcribed it from his own handwriting (3).
(1) He died in Shawwal 726 AH; a biographical entry appears in al-Dhayl ala Tabaqat al-Hanabila, 4:463.
(2) After this, manuscripts F, K, and T add: “qala al-muallif …” (the author said …).
(3) Following this, manuscripts F, K, and T insert the jawab (response) of a Syrian Maliki scholar; in the original copy and in manuscript B it is placed before the reply of Ibn al-Batti al-Hanbali.
هذا جواب الشيخ الإمام العلامة جمال الدين يوسف بن عبد المحمود بن عبد السلام ابن البتّي الحنبلي (١) ﵀ (٢). ومن خطه نقلتُ (٣).

(٢) بعده في (ف، ك، ط): «قال المؤلف. . .».
(٣) بعده في (ف، ك، ط) جواب أحد علماء الشام من المالكية، وهو في الأصل و (ب) مقدّم قبل جواب ابن البتي الحنبلي.
