of graves and stones, as well as the petitions for intercession made at them. It is well known that all of this belongs to the rites of the Christians and the practices of pagan ignorance. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was sent only so that Allah might be declared One and worshipped alone,¹ and that none of His creatures be deified beside Him. Allah Most High commissioned him as the abrogator of every prior law, religion, and festival, and—praise be to Allah—you have undertaken to repair what the people have corrupted of these matters.
You also stand your ground against those who champion such innovations: renegade jurists, plotters who harm the friends of Allah, people of corrupt intentions, hearts that have turned aside from supporting the truth.²
This lowly servant has refrained from detailing your stance against the Tatars, Christians, Jews, the Rāfiḍīs, the Muʿtazilites, the Qadariyya, and the various factions of innovators and deviants, because everyone is unanimous in condemning them. They claim to be refuting their heresies, yet they do not fully discharge the duty of rebuttal as you do; rather, they know the truth but grow cowardly when confrontation arrives, so they wage no jihad. The blame of critics restrains them, lest their positions be lost and their reputations tarnished.³
We have travelled through many lands and have seen no one who truly upholds the religion of Allah in the face of such people except you. You, Allah willing, are the ones who stand firm before them by your very stance
