Zayn al-Din ʿAbd al-Rahman (1) ibn Mahmūd ibn ʿUbaydān al-Baʿlabakkī (2);
and the honoured brother, a learned and virtuous scholar, a wayfaring ascetic endowed with sound intellect, righteous deeds, abundant serenity, and overflowing virtue: Nūr al-Din Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣāʾigh (3);
and his brother, likewise an honoured brother—pious and upright, beneficent and devout—whose practice is dependable, whose trustworthiness is exemplary, possessed of dignified bearing and firm adherence to the Sunnah (4): Fakhr al-Din Muḥammad (5);
and the dear and righteous brother, seeker of his Lord’s path, eager for His good-pleasure and love, a learned and virtuous young man: Sharaf al-Din Muḥammad ibn Saʿd al-Din Saʿd Allah ibn Bukhaykh (6).
(1) MS B reads “bin ʿAbd al-Rahman.”
(2) His biography is given in al-Dhayl ʿala Tabaqat al-Hanabila, 5:50.
(3) Further biographical notices appear in Aʿyan al-ʿAsr, 5:197–199; al-Durr al-Kamina, 4:226; and al-Bidaya wa-l-Nihaya, 18:511–512. The sources style him “Badr al-Din,” while Ibn Kathir calls him “Nasir al-Din.” He died in 739 AH.
(4) MS K has “ittibaʿ al-sunan” (following the sunnah).
(5) I have not located a biographical entry for him.
(6) The base manuscripts give the erroneous reading “Najih”; the correct form is Bukhaykh (baʾ, aspirated khaʾ, yaʾ, final khaʾ). See Ibn Nasir al-Din al-Dimashqi, Tawdih al-Mushabih, 1:369. The element “Saʿdallah” is missing in MS B. He died in 749 AH, and his biography is found in al-Dhayl ʿala Tabaqat al-Hanabila, 5:142–144.
