some of what Allah and His Messenger have enjoined. Through this, events unfolded that brought glory to the Muslims, knit their hearts together, empowered them over the Jews and the Christians, and humbled the polytheists and the People of the Book—surely among the greatest favors Allah has granted His believing servants. A full account of it would be long indeed.
I have also sent you a letter requesting the treatise I composed on the question of churches. It consists of fascicles in my own handwriting, half-folio [ق 102] baladī size (1); so, please forward it, God willing, and seek the assistance of Shaykh Jamal al-Din al-Mizzi, for he is adept at sifting through books and extracting what is required. Kindly dispatch as well the commentary of Qadi Abū Yaʿlā written in the hand of Qadi Abū l-Ḥusayn. If possible, send the entire work, which is eleven volumes; otherwise, send from the beginning one volume, or two (2), or three.
He also mentioned other books (3) that he requests from you.
All the while, the Shaykh has persisted in his habitual occupation of engaging the people (4), benefiting them, admonishing them, and exerting himself in every avenue (5) of righteousness.
