Under that, in a different hand, is written: “Reviewed by the servant poor before Allah, Aḥmad b. Ibrāhīm b. Naṣr Allāh Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm al-Kinānī al-ʿAsqalānī al-Ḥanbalī … (1).”
Beneath it as well: “Reviewed by the servant in need of Allah ……… al-Buhūtī al-Ḥanbalī—may Allah show him kindness, āmīn … in the year 974.”
The work ends on folio 166b, which contains Ibn Faḍl Allāh al-ʿUmarī’s elegy for Shaykh al-Islām. The copyist adds: “Here ends what was abridged from the ‘Virtues.’ All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and His blessings upon Muḥammad, his family, and all his Companions.”
The scribe then appended to the volume several tracts connected to the biography of Shaykh al-Islām:
• The letter of Shaykh al-Islām to al-Malik al-Nāṣir (ff. 174–179).
• Ibn Faḍl Allāh al-ʿUmarī’s biography of Shaykh al-Islām (ff. 180–187).
• A letter from ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥāmid to Ibn Rashīq (ff. 188–190).
• A letter from ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥāmid to Ibn Bukhaykh (ff. 191–197).
At the close of the last item he recorded the date of copying: “Completed on Sunday, the second of Jumādā al-Ūlā in the year 758 AH. May Allah forgive anyone who reads or hears it and prays for the scribe’s forgiveness and mercy. Āmīn.”
