[The Shaykh’s Letter to al-Malik al-Nasir] (1)
After the engagement at Mount Kisrawan, the Shaykh—may Allah sanctify his soul—sent a letter to the Sultan, al-Malik al-Nasir, recounting the favors Allah had bestowed upon the Sultan and upon the people of Islam through the conquest of that mountain. It reads:
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
From the supplicant Aḥmad ibn Taymiyyah to the Sultan of the Muslims—in whose reign Allah has strengthened the religion, (2) honored His believing servants, and subdued the disbelievers, the hypocrites, and the renegade Khārijites. May Allah grant him victory and, through him, give victory to Islam; may He put right, through him and for him, the affairs of both the elite and the common folk; may He revive through him the landmarks of faith; establish through him the statutes of the Qur’an; and humble through him the people of disbelief, debauchery, and defiance.
Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. We praise before you Allah—there is no deity but He—worthy of all praise and powerful over all things. We ask Him to send blessings upon the Seal of the Prophets and the leader of the God-fearing, Muhammad, His servant and Messenger; may Allah bless him and his family and grant them abundant peace.
To proceed: Allah has indeed fulfilled His promise, supported His servant, strengthened His soldiers, and routed the confederates.
