I bear witness that Allah’s promise is true,
and that the Fire is the abode of the unbelievers; (1)
and that the Throne floats upon the waters,
and above the Throne is the Lord of all creation. (2)
Likewise are the lines of Umayyah ibn Abī al-Ṣalt which he recited before the Prophet ﷺ; the Prophet admired them, as he did other pieces of Umayyah’s poetry, and remarked: “His poetry has believed while his heart has disbelieved.” (3)
Magnify Allah, for He alone is worthy of majesty;
our Lord is supremely great in the highest heaven.
He erected the loftiest structure, surpassing all mankind, (4)
and fashioned above the heavens a couch;
so exalted that no eye can reach its height— (5)
beneath it the angels appear in visible ranks.
And in the hadith recorded in the Sunan: “Allah is modest and generous; He is shy to turn His servant away empty-handed when the servant raises his hands to Him.” (6)
He also said: “He stretches out his hands toward the heaven, crying, ‘My Lord, my Lord!’” (7)
