– His Passing:
He lay ill for nearly three months, afflicted with an ulcer and a consumptive fever; then his condition worsened, severe diarrhoea set in, and his strength ebbed away until he died on Wednesday, the tenth of Jumada I, 744 AH, not yet forty years old (1).
Ibn Kathir (2) said: “His father told me that the last words he uttered were: ‘I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, place me among those who constantly repent, and place me among those who keep themselves pure.’ The funeral prayer was held for him on Thursday in the Muzaffari Mosque. The city’s judges attended, together with its notables—scholars, commanders, merchants, and ordinary folk. It was a large and dignified procession, radiant with light. He was buried in al-Rawḍah. May Allah, Exalted be He, have mercy on him.”
