to human beings, deceive them, and entice them, and that Satan afflicts people with madness (1).

[Sorcery and Sorcerers]
They believe that sorcery and sorcerers exist in this world, and that sorcery and its practice constitute disbelief on the part of anyone who practises it believing that it brings benefit or harm without Allah’s permission.

[Shunning Religious Innovation]
They hold that one should shun religious innovation, sins, boasting, arrogance, conceit, treachery, malice, (2) and malicious tale-bearing, (3) and that one should refrain from harming others and from backbiting, except concerning someone who openly professes a religious innovation and calls others to it. Speaking about such a person is not, in their view, backbiting.

[Acquiring Knowledge]
They hold that one should acquire knowledge and seek it from its proper sources; diligently study the Quran, its sciences, and its interpretation; listen to the transmitted Sunnah of the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, collect its reports, and gain a sound understanding of them; and seek out the reports of the Companions.

للآدميين ويخدعونهم ويغرونهم، وأن الشيطان يتخبط الإنسان (١) . [السحر والسحرة] وأن في الدنيا سحرا وسحرة، وأن السحر واستعماله كفر من فاعله، معتقدا له، نافعا ضارا بغير إذن الله. [مجانبة البدعة] ويرون مجانبة البدعة والآثام، والفخر، والتكبر، والعجب، والخيانة، والدغل، (٢) والسعاية، (٣) ويرون كف الأذى وترك الغيبة إلا لمن أظهر بدعة وهو يدعو إليها، فالقول فيه ليس بغيبة عندهم. [تعلم العلم] ويرون تعلم العلم وطلبه من مظانه، والجد في تعلم القرآن وعلومه وتفسيره، وسماع سنن الرسول ﷺ وجمعها والتفقه فيها، وطلب آثار الصحابة.
