all praise His servants offer Him.
Know that the reverence due to Allah alone has two aspects:
The first is that He possesses every attribute of perfection, and His perfection in each is the fullest, greatest and most encompassing. His are all-encompassing knowledge, irresistible power, majesty and greatness. Such is His greatness that the heavens and the earth in the palm of the Most Merciful are smaller than a mustard seed, as stated by Ibn ʿAbbās1 and others2. Allah Most High says:
“They have not given Allah His due recognition. On the Day of Resurrection, the whole earth will be in His grasp, and the heavens will be rolled up in His right hand” 3.
He also says:
“Indeed, Allah holds the heavens and the earth lest they cease to be. If they should cease, no one could hold them after Him” 4.
Allah Most High—who is the Most High, the Magnificent—also says:
“The heavens almost split apart from above them” 5, to the end of the verse.
In an authentic hadith, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Allah says: ‘Majesty is My cloak and greatness is My lower garment. Whoever contends with Me for either of them, I shall punish him’” 6. Thus, majesty and greatness belong to Allah Most High: two attributes whose magnitude cannot be measured and whose true nature cannot be fathomed.
The second aspect of His greatness is that no created being deserves to be revered as Allah is revered. He, exalted and majestic, therefore deserves that His servants revere Him with their hearts, tongues and limbs, by striving to know Him, love Him and humble themselves before Him,
