Tafsir Asma Allah al-Husna li-al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

His names, the All-Strong and the Firm in Strength. This is His magnificent attribute, with which the strength of created beings cannot be compared, however great it may be. There is also the might of invulnerability: He is inherently self-sufficient and needs no one. His servants can neither harm Him nor benefit Him; rather, He is the One who brings harm and benefit, gives and withholds. And there is the might of supremacy and dominance over all beings: all are confined within Allah’s dominion, subject to His greatness and obedient to His will. The forelocks of all creatures are in His hand. Nothing moves or acts except through His might, strength and permission. Whatever Allah wills comes to pass, and whatever He does not will does not come to pass. There is no might or strength except through Him.

Among the manifestations of His strength and power is His creation of the heavens, the earth and everything between them in six days. He created all beings, then causes them to die, then brings them back to life, and to Him they will be returned:

‘Your creation and your resurrection are only like those of a single soul’ 1.

‘It is He who originates creation, then repeats it, and that is easier for Him’ 2.

Among the manifestations of His power is that you see the earth lifeless, but when He sends water down upon it, it gains vigor, swells and brings forth every delightful kind of plant. Another manifestation of His power is the various punishments and exemplary chastisements He inflicted upon nations that rejected the truth and upon wrongdoing disbelievers. Their schemes and plotting, their wealth, their armies and their fortresses afforded them no protection whatsoever against Allah’s punishment when your Lord’s command came; these only increased their ruin.

This is especially evident in these times. The immense strength and astounding inventions attained by these nations are due to Allah’s enabling them and teaching them what they did not know. Among Allah’s signs is that their strength, capabilities and inventions have done nothing to ward off the calamities and devastating punishments that have befallen them, despite their utmost efforts to guard against them. Yet Allah’s command prevails, and the elements of the upper and lower worlds submit to His power.

أسمائه القوي المتين، وهي وصفه العظيم الذي لا تنسب إليه قوة المخلوقات وإن عظمت، وعزة الامتناع فإنه هو الغني بذاته فلا يحتاج إلى أحد، ولا يبلغ العباد ضرة فيضرونه، ولا نفعه فينفعونه بل هو الضار النافع المعطي المانع، وعزة القهر والغلبة لكل الكائنات فهي كلها مقصورة لله خاضعة لعظمته منقادة لإرادته، فجميع نواصي المخلوقات بيده، لا يتحرك منها متحرك ولا يتصرف متصرف إلا بحوله وقوته وإذنه، فما شاء الله كان، وما لم يشأ لم يكن، ولا حول ولا قوة إلا به، فمن قوته واقتداره أنه خلق السماوات، والأرض، وما بينهما في ستة أيام، وأنه خلق الخلق ثم يميتهمثم يحييهم ثم إليه يرجعون ﴿مَا خَلْقُكُمْ وَلا بَعْثُكُمْ إلا كَنَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ﴾ ١. ﴿وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَبْدأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ وَهُوَ أَهْوَنُ عَلَيْه﴾ ٢ ومن آثار قدرته أنك ترى الأرض هامدة، فإذا أنزل عليها الماء اعتزت وربت وأنبتت من كل زوج بهيج، ومن آثار قدرته ما أوقعه بالأمم المكذبين، والكفار الظالمين من أنواع العقوبات وحلول المثلات، وأنه لم يغن عنهم كيدهم، ومكرهم، ولا أموالهم، ولا جنودهم، ولا حصونهم من عذاب الله من شيء لما جاء أمر ربك، وما زادوهم غير تتبيب، وخصوصاً في هذه الأوقات فإن هذه القوة الهائلة، والمخترعات الباهرة التي وصلت إليها مقدرة هذه الأمم هي من أقدار الله لهم وتعليمه لهم، ما لم يكونوا يعلمونه، فمن آيات الله أن قواهم، وقدرهم ومخترعاتهم لم تغن عنهم شيئاً في صد ما أصابهم من النكبات، والعقوبات المهلكة مع بذل جدهم واجتهادهم في توقي ذلك، ولكن أمر الله غالب، وقدرته تنقاد لها عناصر العالم العلوي، والسفلي.
