when a servant asks his Lord to provide for him, he seeks only provision beneficial to his religious and bodily well-being, which is the first kind. But if provision in its broadest sense is meant—the second kind—then unlawful provision is included in it. There is no creature on earth but that its provision rests with Allah.
The same distinction applies to blessings, mercy, and similar things”1.
38 – Al-Rashīd (the Guide to What Is Right)2:
He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—said:
“He is al-Rashīd, whose words and deeds are right. He guides those bewildered on physical paths and those astray on spiritual paths. He guides creation through the perfect guidance He has prescribed through His messengers. He also guides His believing servant: when the servant submits to Him and acts sincerely for His sake, He guides him to everything beneficial to him, eases his way to ease, and keeps him from hardship3.
The name al-Rashīd signifies His own rectitude and His guidance of His servants. His words of decree, by which He brings things into being and governs all affairs, are entirely true, embodying wisdom, goodness, and perfection. His words of religious legislation—those He has spoken in His Books and through His messengers—contain perfect truthfulness in their reports and complete justice in their commands and prohibitions. None is more truthful than Allah in speech or better than Him in discourse:
“And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice” 4—in commands and prohibitions.
