The Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy, the Provider, the Guide to Right Conduct
36 - The Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy2:
He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—said: “The Most Merciful and the Bestower of Mercy are two names indicating that He, Most High, possesses vast and immense mercy that encompasses everything and extends to every creature. He has ordained complete mercy for the God-fearing who follow His prophets and messengers. Theirs is unrestricted mercy, joined to eternal happiness. All others are deprived of this complete mercy, for they themselves have rejected and refused it by disbelieving what He has conveyed and turning away from His commands. They therefore have only themselves to blame.
Know that among the principles agreed upon by the early generations of this community and its leading scholars is what the Quran and Sunnah teach: belief in all Allah’s names, all His attributes, and the implications of those attributes.
Thus, for example, they believe that He is the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy, possessing immense mercy—an attribute of His that extends to those who receive it. Every blessing is therefore an effect of His mercy. The same applies to all His other most beautiful names.
Thus, the All-Knowing means that He possesses immense knowledge by which He knows everything.
