Tafsir Asma Allah al-Husna li-al-SadiAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed, falsehood is bound to perish.”’ 1”2.

22 – The Judge: (The Judge3, the Just)

He, may Allah Most High have mercy on him, said: “Among His names are the Judge and the Just, who judges between His servants in this world and the Hereafter with justice and equity. He does not wrong anyone by even an atom’s weight, nor does He make anyone bear another’s burden of sin or punish a servant beyond what his sin deserves. He restores rights to their rightful holders, leaving no one without receiving what is rightfully theirs.

He is just in His governance and ordainment:

‘Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path.’ 56.

The Judge, the Just, is the One to whom judgment in every matter belongs. He, Most High, judges through His revealed law and explains to His servants all the just and wise ways by which disputes are adjudicated and disagreements resolved. He judges between people concerning their differences and governs their affairs through His decree and ordainment, bringing upon them whatever His wisdom requires. He puts everything in its proper place and assigns it its fitting station. He will judge between them on the Day of Recompense and Reckoning, judging between them in truth. All creation will praise Him for His judgment. Even those whom He condemns to punishment will acknowledge His justice and that He has not wronged them by even an atom’s weight.”7.

(1) Al-Isrā’ (81). (2) Al-Tafsīr (5:631–632). (3) Evidence for this name is the Prophet’s saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “Indeed, Allah is the Judge, and judgment belongs to Him.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd (5:240), Book of Manners, chapter on changing an offensive name; and al-Nasā’ī, Book of Judicial Decisions, hadith (5389), chapter on appointing a man as arbitrator who then judges between them. Al-Albānī authenticated it in Sahīh Sunan Abī Dāwūd (3:936), hadith (4145). (4) I have not found any authentic evidence establishing it as a name of Allah Most High. And Allah knows best.
