The Reckoner, the Preserver, the Truth, the Judge, the All-Wise
19 – The Reckoner1:
The author, may Allah Most High have mercy on him, said:
“The Reckoner: He knows His servants, suffices those who put their trust in Him, and recompenses His servants for good and evil according to His wisdom and His knowledge of their deeds, small and great2.
The Reckoner also means the Watchful One who calls His servants to account and recompenses them with justice and grace. It also means the One who suffices His servant against his worries and sorrows. More particularly, He suffices those who put their trust in Him:
‘And whoever puts his trust in Allah, He will suffice him.’ 3
That is, He suffices him in the affairs of his religion and worldly life4.
The Reckoner is also the One who records His servants’ deeds, good and evil, and calls them to account, rewarding good with good and requiting evil with evil. Allah Most High says:
‘O Prophet, Allah is sufficient for you and for the believers who follow you.’ 5
That is, He suffices you and your followers. Allah’s sufficiency for His servant is therefore proportionate to the servant’s following of the Messenger, outwardly and inwardly, and his fulfilment of servitude to Allah Most High.”6
20 – The Preserver7:
He, may Allah Most High have mercy on him, said:
“The Preserver: He preserves what He has created; His knowledge encompasses all that He has brought into existence; and He protects His devoted servants from falling into sins and ruin.
He treats them with kindness in every movement and moment of rest, and keeps a full account of His servants’ deeds and their recompense8. The Preserver encompasses two meanings:
