the Most Compassionate, the Restorer of broken hearts, of the weak and helpless, and of those who seek refuge and shelter with Him.”1.
It has three meanings, all encompassed by His name, the Compeller. He is the One who protects the weak and every heart broken before Him. He restores the broken, enriches the poor, and eases every hardship for those in difficulty. He consoles the afflicted by enabling them to remain steadfast and patient, and compensates them for their affliction with the greatest reward when they fulfil the duty it entails. He grants a special restoration to the hearts of those who humbly submit to His greatness and majesty, and to the hearts of those who love Him, through the many kinds of honours, knowledge, and states of faith that He pours upon them. Thus, restoration is close at hand for hearts broken before Him. When someone supplicates, saying, “O Allah, restore me,” he means this restoration, whose essence is to set the servant right and ward off everything distressing from him.
The second meaning is that He is the All-Subduing over everything: all things yield and submit to Him.
The third meaning is that He is the Most High, above everything. Thus, the name the Compeller encompasses the meanings of the Most Compassionate, the All-Subduing, and the Most High. A fourth meaning may also be intended: the One supremely exalted above every evil and imperfection, above resembling anyone, and above having any equal, rival, namesake, or partner in His unique attributes and rights.”2.
